Paul and Gail put their boats through their intial paces.

Gail's Oyasio during its maiden voyage. The boat is in 1/96 scale and performed really well.

Paul's Thresher churns up a foamy wake. It soon went deep and lost signal. Because the ballast tank failed to blow, the lifeguard had to "do a Hasselhoff." Because of signal reception difficulties, running soon after moved indoors to the instructional pool. Escaping the sun was a side benefit.

The window ledges inside the instructional pool building were perfect for displaying the boats. Wayne Frey's hull kit fleet consists of a Scaleships Akula, Small World Models Kilo, and McCloud Oscar II, all in 1/96 scale.

Paul's USS Jefferson City (SSN-759) patrols the instructional pool at periscope depth.
